I just tried to explain Tasha/Data to my young friend in Pakistan who has never seen Star Trek or dealt with much science fiction.

I think I broke him.

His only context for the whole thing was Titantic. Sadly, I don't think he's entirely off-base.

So, it took me a bit to follow his logic on this one, but I also have to remember, I live in the West, and he's very young from a somewhat conservative background and there's a lot of cultural references Talha just does not have.

Explaining paganism last week was one such moment. Fathoming a religious practice who cares more for your recycling bin than any religious textbooks was mind-boggling.

We were swapping music that we use for writing, he asked for lyrics and so I had to explain to this young, sheltered Pakistani guy what a one night stand was. Then I added that they couldn't really get out of each other's orbit because they were confined on a ship. He only concept of such a short-term thing in a confined space was Titantic.

Not where my Western brain would go, but I can see where this could be a point of reference, and I'm impressed his brain found one all things concidered.
